The Chemical Intermediates business at Jubilant Ingrevia is built on robust Acetyl and Ketene chemistry platforms. It supplies essential building-block molecules that feed pharmaceutical, agrochemical, nutrition, polymer, dye, aromatic and industrial value chains. Despite exposure to cyclical market dynamics, the business remains an important pillar of the portfolio, supported by significant scale, deep vertical integration and strong cash-generation that funds growth in higher-margin segments.
Role in the Jubilant Ingrevia Portfolio
Chemical Intermediates is described as a strategically important but margin-sensitive business. Its acetyl platform has historically been a strong cash engine, underpinned by expertise in ketene chemistry and leadership in Acetic Anhydride. Even during periods of softer demand and pricing pressure in downstream chains, the business has remained resilient by rebalancing the product mix towards growing applications, including Ethyl Acetate and Bio Acetaldehyde, while maintaining share in core acetyl products.

Acetyls, Ketene and the Green Value Chain
At the heart of this segment is the Acetyls platform, which includes Acetic Anhydride, Ethyl Acetate, Bio Acetaldehyde, Bio Acetic Acid, Formaldehyde and Propionic Anhydride. Increasingly, these intermediates are produced through bio-based routes with high bio-raw-material content.
Bio Acetic Acid, for example, is a food-grade product higher up the value chain, produced via a process that significantly reduces carbon emissions compared with petroleum-based alternatives and certified by leading food-safety and religious-compliance standards. Bio Acetaldehyde is manufactured using proprietary technology integrated with the Company’s bioethanol operations, providing a low-carbon-footprint precursor for the Pyridine value chain and for applications in resins, pharmaceuticals, fragrances and flavourings.
Through this green value-chain approach, customers can access essential intermediates while lowering embedded emissions in their own products.

Manufacturing Network and Reliability
The Chemical Intermediates business is supported by a distributed manufacturing footprint across key sites such as Gajraula, Bharuch, Nira, Savli and Ambernath, forming part of a five-plant integrated network. This network provides flexibility in sourcing, efficient inventory management and alignment with the Company’s broader agenda on safety, digitalisation and sustainability.
The 60,000 MT Acetic Anhydride plant commissioned at Bharuch has further strengthened leadership in both domestic and export markets for this critical intermediate, reinforcing volume availability and supply reliability across the acetyl portfolio.
